Sochi 2014
In 2014 vinden de Olympische Spelen plaats in Sochi, Rusland. Nooit eerder hebben Olympische Spelen plaatsgevonden in een gebied dat sterker contrasteert met de glamour van de Spelen dan Sochi. Op twintig kilometer afstand bevindt zich conflictgebied Abchazië. Ten oosten reiken de bergen van de Kaukasus tot in obscure en verarmde deelrepublieken als Tsjerkessië, Noord-Ossetië en Tjetsjenië. Aan de kust staan oude Sovjetsanatoria schouder aan schouder met de duurste hotels en clubs van de Russische rivièra.
Tussen nu en 2014 zal de landstreek rondom Sochi onherkenbaar veranderen. De extreme make-over is al aan de gang; vluchtelingen flats en armoedige resorts verdwijnen in hoog tempo uit de deels mondaine, deels verarmde badplaats Sochi. Duizenden arbeiders uit geheel Rusland en daarbuiten wonen in prefab-woningen om de stadions, hotels en moderne infrastructuur op tijd af te hebben. Helikopters vliegen af en aan met bouwmateriaal. De economische crisis wordt zo goed en kwaad als het kan verdoezeld.

jammer dat de oorspronklijke bewoners – de Circassians-van sotchi niet atcief bij dit gebeuren worden betrokken
Action of protest.
One of the major problems for Circassians is the totally absence of understanding by the successive Russian authorities the Russian-Circassians (Adyge) war completely. This is really devastating for every bid of moral we still have.
I do support the idea that we must have a good relationship and friendship with the Russian government and people. The Caucasus, in the Russian Federation is the only homeland for us.
Recently, the Adyge Xase (society) in Maikop has designed and made a small ribbon with the subscript: The Russian-Circassian ( Adyge) war 1763-1864, which is entirely true.
Mentioning such a harmless fact is considered by the General Attorney as a crime and summoned the chairman ( Hapaya Arenbi) to his office and accused him being an extremist undermining order and stability of the political system . He could go to Gail for years , and the Xase can be shut down .
I feel that we must help him by protesting against this unjustice . I hope that this opportunity will also help to achieve a good and peaceful cooperation between the Circassians and the Russians for organising and the opening of the Olympic Games in Sotchi , after all Sotchi was the latest Capital of the joint circassian community until it has been captured by the Russain army in 1864.
